Together on Tuesdays - Week 3

Welcome back for another week of Together on Tuesdays!

Thank you to all who participated last week.  There sure were a lot of good food ideas shared.
I cannot wait to go back and try some of the recipes!

This week, we are sharing a favorite title {either book or film}. For someone who loves to read this should be easy, right? Perhaps not. I have actually had a hard time choosing just one book to share. There really are so many good books, and quite a few line our shelves.

The one book I turn to the most is the Bible. As God's love letter to us, how could I not?  However, I suspect, you probably already knew that about me.  Since one of the main reasons for Together on Tuesdays is to get to know one another better, I hope to share something new or different each week.  Which leads me to my current dilema: which book to share as a favorite?

Honestly, I probably read more nonfiction than fiction. I like history and theology, which most of those books fall into the nonfiction category.  However, since it is summer, I thought I would share a favorite fiction author.

I happen to enjoy the works of Jane Austen immensely. The twisting and turning of her story lines are fun, and the fact that there is always a happy ending doesn't hurt either.

Sense and Sensibility and Emma would rank a second and third to my absolute favorite work of hers: Pride and Prejudice.  The comical characters of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet are ingenious! The three younger Bennet girls, who admittedly would be annoying in real life, add zest to the plot. However, the two older girls, Jane and Elizabeth, are both wonderful, dynamic main characters.  Add into the mix their love interests and all the accompanying cast of characters, including a memorable Mr. Collins and Lady Catherine de Bourgh, and you have a recipe for a fantastic fictional work.  However, the enjoyment doesn't end there.  There are mishaps, mistakes, and misconceptions galore to add to the plot.  These of course are ironed out by the ending, but they are fun to read.  All in all, it is a book I can {and have} read more than once, which is not something I can say for most fictional works I read.  I guess this is why I chose Pride and Prejudice as a favorite.

How about you, what is one of your favorite books?

Coming up next week: Favorite place, perhaps local to you or a favorite vacation spot?

Do you want to join us? We'd love it if you did. Just write a post, or link to a past one, which shares your favorite book or film. Add a text link to either This Simple Home or These Grace Filled Days, and then add your post to the link-up below. Be sure to link your post and not your home page. This makes it much easier to find your post for the link-up.

Ready to link up? We'd love to get to get to know you better during these relaxing summer months.

I liked Persuasion and Northanger Abbey best of Austen's books.

    1. Honestly, over the years Persuasion has grown on me. At first I had an extreme disdain for Anne. I thought she was wishy-washy and weak. However, over time (and probably some maturity on my part) I have grown to appreciate her and her choices/dilemas. Northanger Abbey is a hoot - the imagination in that Catherine is fabulous!

  2. Well, I think I will have to read P&P. Did I tell you that I think I have a copy...just never read it. (I may have started it...not sure.)

  3. I still haven't read any of Jane Austen's books. Based on the movies I've seen, I think Pride and Prejudice would be my favorite. Maybe Emma. I'm with you on the happy endings! :)

    1. Ah, Emma - that one is good too, with such dramatic changes in Emma and all the mishaps ending well, of course :-)
