One day last week, our preschooler completed a lesson on sheep.
It was part of his farm unit study.
I read him two books about sheep.
The first was a nonfiction book entitled See How They Grow: Lamb.
The second was a short story about a sheep dog named Floss.
We followed up our story time with a neat art project.
This is our son's completed sheep scene.
For those of you interested, here is how the project can be done.
Supplies:
blue paper for background
black nontoxic paint for hand prints
two paper plates (one for paint and one for glue)
glue
cotton balls
yellow paint marker (or regular marker)
green paint marker (or regular marker)
Process:
1. Use black paint to coat child's hand.
(Either pour a small amount of black paint onto a small paper plate and allow child to dip their hand into the paint or use a foam brush to apply a small amount of black paint to the palm side of their hand.)
2. Have your child press his hands flat with fingers separated onto the blue paper.
3. Wash your hands.
4. Allow black hand prints to dry.
5. Pour regular glue onto a paper plate.
6. Have your child dip cotton balls into the glue and place on the palm portion of the print forming the body of the sheep.
The thumb prints will look like heads and the four finger prints will look like legs. |
7. Next, use the green paint marker to add grass or a hill for the sheep to stand on.
8. An option: Our son added a sun to shine on his sheep scene.
