Running to Daddy

I don't remember when the older children stopped running the aisle to greet escaping the pew to get to their daddy, the Drummer, each time he played.

Every Sunday, the worship team arrives early to warm-up and complete a sound check.  On those days, in the past, the Drummer and one or two older children traveled in one vehicle and I followed forty-five minutes later with the younger children.  When the younger children and I arrived, they ran the aisle with the sole purpose of getting to daddy's arms.  Most of the time, he would squat low and embrace the panting child.  Sometimes, he would be involved in worship team preparations and the child would be content to clutch his leg, waiting for an embrace.  Sometimes they waited patiently, most of the time impatiently, for his attention.

Years later, the older children now on the cusp of teenage years, have grown too tall to clutch their father's legs and matured too much to run an aisle.  Our youngest still has moments of galloping through the pews, but for the most part, the older children's time of running the aisles is passed, and a new phase has emerged.  They walk the aisle, still with the same purpose, to reach Daddy, but now with a determined, controlled gait.  And, I do believe their eyes dancing with merriment shows they are still running on the inside.

May their child hearts never grow too old to stop running to their daddy, and may all of our hearts never stop running to our heavenly Father either.
