Good Gifts - Part II

When our oldest entered the living room laden with stuff, I asked him, "What are all those for?"

"Just some white elephant gifts left at the party.  No one wanted them."  He pauses, looks down at the pile, and my eyes travel with his.  I scan the stack of videos.

"Don't we already have those?"  I ask.  Pathetic, I can't really remember all the titles of the videos we own.  There are too many.

"Yeah, but I thought I could give them away," and he names a younger boy who he thought would like them.  "What do you think?"  He's already thought of the recipient, someone who would benefit from the gift of our duplicate.

He raises his gaze and watches me staring at the videos.  All I can think of is this scene, and it plays in my head...

When the people crowd about John the Baptist, they ask, 'What shall we do?'

And he would answer and say to them,
"The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none;
and he who has food is to do likewise."  Luke 3:11

...then, I think of the excess we have.  The videos I can't remember, the clothes barely worn, the extras that others could use, need.  And I remember.

We are gifted to give.  Gifted materially, emotionally, mentally, monetarily...gifted in so many ways to give to others, to give like He gives: joyfully, lavishly, and lovingly.

I raise my eyes and find our oldest watching me expectantly, wondering what I think.
"That's a great idea."

  4. The verse is so timely right here at Christmas when there are people who may need what we don't use or need anymore. Good word.

  5. "We are gifted to give. Enjoy the Christmas.Good Day.
