Love Covers All

Oh what a contrast between hatred and love!

How active hatred appears as it 'stirs up strife.'
Can't you just envision a stirring of the pot as it boils and hisses?

But love seems so passive as it 'covers all transgressions,'
like a leaf gently falling over the muck and mud of water saturated ground.

Yet, love is an active choice
of going against the grain of our sinful tendencies,
putting another's needs and wants before our own.
What a difficult decision for our flesh,
and sometimes, downright impossible,
but for God's Spirit working through us,
enabling us to love.

Perhaps, then love is not so passive
as it covers all transgressions.

This post is the first in a series of posts pondering the fruit of the Spirit.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,
and self control.   Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

  1. Hi Dorie:

I like your post. Over the course of the past few weeks, I did a series on the fruit of the Spirit. (I still have to post the final one on self-control). I find the words of Jesus in John 15:5 to be key, "apart from me you can do nothing."

    Blessings,
    Joan

  3. Love, it's a lovely word but it seems so hard to put in action. Thanks be to God, through the Holy Spirit, we can be able to love, even the unlovable.

  5. Dorie,
This is such a great image...we are so often that muddy water that needs covering...and then, because of what's been extended to us by the gracious Father, we can love those who are awful muddy themselves...so perfectly perfect...

    peace,
    lori

  6. I love this...what a great illustration of the verse. Proverbs is such a great book to draw from.
