A Spring Reading List

Having just finished Kisses From Katie, by Katie Davis, I am slowly trying to digest it.  What a tremendous testimony of the Lord's leading!  If you have not read it, I really cannot recommend it enough.  In fact, I lingered on finishing the book.  I didn't want to finish it.  It was that good.  And, just like all good books, it left more than just a good impression.  The words, the story, the obvious working of the Lord, all of it, left me wanting to be more open to His calling in my life where ever He leads.

On the heels of such a good book, I had a hard time deciding what to read next.  I have started Grace for the Good Girl, by Emily Freeman, and want to finish this.  Then, hopefully, I will finally finish The Pearl, by John Steinbeck.  It is a book I started and wimped out part way through.  {In my personal defense, I tried to read it right after Night, by Elie Wiesel.}  Other books I'd love to read this spring include Common Sense by Thomas Paine and Uncle Tom's Cabin, by Harriet Beecher Stowe.

A few books I am/will be reading aloud to my children this spring are My Brother Sam is Dead, by James Lincoln Collier & Christopher Collier, The Journeyman, by Elizabeth Yates, and Gulliver's Travels, by Jonathan Swift.

In the days leading up to Easter, we are reading Luke together as a family.  Each year, for the past three years, we have focused on one of the Gospels to read together after dinner.  It is a sweet time of reading and learning together from God's Word, during the days before we celebrate Easter.

  5. Dorie,
I'm so glad I found your blog! It's lovely. I feel very much at home here. I read "Kisses from Katie" several months ago and was so deeply moved that I sobbed. Katie radiant beauty caught my daughter's eye. My daughter knows Jesus, but doesn't "know Him, know Him", if you can understand her attempt to express herself. Lydia read about Katie and was in awe. We watched some of her talks on Youtube and wrote to her on her web site. Katie's book opened up something inside my 12 year old daughter that only the Lord can open. She wants to go visit Katie and play with her daughters and bring them presents. It's not that easy, I tell her. Katie's Amazima Ministry has grown large enough that personal contact with Katie is beyond Lydia's grasp. But she is saving money which I anticipate will go toward Katie's ministry.

Thanks for your post. Reminded me of that beautiful young woman.
    Love,
    Laura
