The Coming Revolution - A Review

This year, in our homeschool history lessons, we will study American history through the 1850's.  Currently, we are studying Colonial America and the world during the 1700's.  It is a timely opportunity to read any and all books related to this vital time period in America's history.  Consequently, when I received The Coming Revolution, I was excited to read a book linking this time period with current events.

The Coming Revolution, by Dr. Richard G. Lee, helped me learn more about the exploration and colonial time periods of America and its effects on today's government and culture.  Lee uses examples from the past and cited similarities with today's events.  He particularly centers on the American spirit and its origin from the Great Awakening.  Lee uses events from the 1700's as a springboard to discuss the current political state of our country.  His strong opinions are clearly stated with urgency and passion.  Lee definitely believes America is at a crux.  The predominant message of the book is either America will continue down the current path {to destruction}, or Americans will rise up to defend individual rights and demand a return to the founding fathers vision for a republic built on morals and justice.  Within his concluding remarks, Lee strongly urges all Americans to actively participate in protecting their civil rights.

Even though I felt this book was well worth a read given our current history studies, I would encourage all Americans to read it.  It offers readers a chance to bridge the past with current political events.  And, this year, with the upcoming election, will be a chance for everyone let their voices be heard at the polls to help determine America's future.
