Quenching Thirst

Heat enveloped us.  Humidity ran high.
Sweat formed on brows.
Our youngest daughter minded it the most.
She wanted water.  She needed water.
Fountain scattered gardens
beckoned her to come,
to look, but not touch.

Clear water burst forth,
arching the sky.

Beauty for the eye.
Yet, water out of reach,
her thirst persists.

We trudge on through hot, stagnant air,
admiring scenic views of
still waters aside paved paths.
She plods onward, heavy steps
searching for quenching waters.

No place to rest and replenish.
Rushing water sounds.

Racing ahead,
she eagerly captures clapping waters.

Beautiful views quench eye thirst again and again.
Yet, her throat remains parched.

Sweat descends noses.
Heat of day envelopes us,
as spirits wilt.
Feet march on
seeking quenching water.

A corner turned
and finally a fountain
that sustains the body welcomes all.

As we walk these days,
our eyes crave beauty,
throats dry,
and souls thirst.
One water sustains...
soul quenching water
from the fountain of life.

"If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.  Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." ~ Jesus {John 7:37-39}

As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
Psalm 42:1
