A Light Burden

...do not be worried about your life,...
Look at the birds of the air,

that they do not sow,
nor reap nor gather into barns,

and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are you not worth much more than they?...

Observe how the lilies of the field grow;
they do not toil nor do they spin,...

But if God so clothes the grass of the field,
which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace,
will He not much more clothe you?

You of little faith!
Do not worry then,...

But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness,
and all these things will be added to you.
~ Jesus
Excerpts from Matthew 6:25-34 NASB.  For full text click here.

How often these words have brought comfort, correction, and a challenge to my heart!

The comfort:
God cares for me and meets my needs...(vs. 26, 30, 32)

The correction:
'You of little faith'... (vs. 28, 30)

The challenge:
'Do not worry'... (v. 31, 33-34)
A hard challenge for me as I know the worry I can carry about makes me feel 'weary and heavy-laden'...

“Come to Me, all who weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
~ Jesus   Matthew 11:28-30  NASB

So, daily, moment to moment,
I am laying my needs at His feet,
laying this heavy burden of personal fears and anxiety at His feet,
seeking His kingdom and His righteousness first,
trusting His gentleness,
having faith He will provide,
finding rest for my soul,
and having a light burden,
...a burden of light.
His light
to shine
through me,
through my life.
A life that is shattered
and broken,
with all these cracks and holes
that allows
His light to shine...
for all to see;
this is what I seek.

  3. I once read about yoke and what it was imply, being under a Rabbi's yoke means that you have to follow his set of rules, share his interpretation of the scriptures , walking in his shadow etc,,, so by saying that Jesus yoke is easy to carrier is a wonderful taught!

being a follower of Jesus being under this Rabbi's teaching, sharing is yoke is a easier thing to do, but how often do we add to this yoke, make our own set of rule, try to achieve holiness, by doing good deed or being righteous instead we should rest on on the cross!

  9. Beautiful photography on your blog! I especially like the icicles below. Something about winter that captures God's majesty and beauty just like a glorious sunset.
Your thoughts shared here are important and so hard to put into action--Do Not Worry. But I'm learning, even in my old age, to trust Him more and more. I cannot control the circumstances around me but He can!
    Blessings,
