Pulling Weeds On Our Knees

The flower beds are green
with weeds and intruders.
They choke and squeeze
the flowers roots.
Vibrant colors fade,
pale and withered.

And we pull weeds
on our knees
with our heads bowed
in the sun light
and our hands grasp tight,
pulling.

Being faithful to remove
the weeds we can, but...

The carefully tended soil darkens
with pride and selfishness.
Sin grows close, pushing away
compassion and justice.
Fruit ceases to grow,
stagnant and still.

And we pull weeds
on our knees
with our head bowed
in the Son's light
and our hands open wide,
waiting.

Knowing He is faithful to do
the work we can not.

This post is the thirteenth in a series of posts pondering the fruit of the Spirit.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,
and self control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
